Johnson vows Kings arena effort will move forward, despite relocation rumors

Published: 1 years 92 days ago

Sacramento Bee:  In a statement issued Sunday evening, Mayor Kevin Johnson said he intends to move forward with efforts to finance and build a sports and entertainment arena in Sacramento, despite news that the team has been in talks with Anaheim officials about moving south.

"I am obviously aware of the rumors and speculation about the Kings and Anaheim," the mayor said in an email. "But I'm not aware of any deal having been completed. So as far as I'm concerned, the Kings are still Sacramento's team and deserve our full support."

Johnson made his comments 24 hours after Commissioner David Stern confirmed the Kings and officials with the Honda Center in Anaheim have had talks about a deal to move the team to Orange County.
