Mayor Johnson opposes Gov. Brown's proposal to kill redevelopment agencies

Published: 1 years 130 days ago

Sacramento Bee:  Add Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson to the list of people who aren't in favor of Gov. Jerry Brown's proposal to do away with local redevelopment agencies.

Johnson told an overflow crowd at a community forum in North Natomas on Wednesday night that redevelopment agencies are just too vital to cities to be eliminated.

"They spark different aspects of our community," he said. "Those dollars are catalytic, they create jobs, they do some amazing things."

Johnson said the mayors from the state's 10 largest cities would meet with Brown later this month to voice their opposition over the proposal to erase redevelopment agencies and enterprise zones.
