Sacramento Bee: Sacramento Charter High School officials say they are being denied access to area middle school students and their parents at the same time the school is being criticized for its low enrollment.
To level the playing field, Sacramento High officials say they want the same access to some middle schools holding events to which some private high schools and schools outside the district are invited.
The underutilization of the Sacrament High campus will be the focus of several community meetings early next year that will discuss relocating the school.
At Sutter Middle School, non-district schools like Mira Loma and Christian Brothers were invited to campus as part of a PTA-sponsored event. School newsletters sent to inform parents of their high school options listed St. Francis, Mira Loma and other non-district schools.
The district's dependent charters such as New Technology High and The Met were invited to Sutter's school-sponsored high school night.
"There is no mention that we even exist and we can't participate" in high school night events, said Ed Manansala, superintendent of St. HOPE Public Schools, which operates Sacramento High. "Parents should have knowledge of their choices."
