Sacramento FIRST to Revisit Top Proposals

Published: 1 years 172 days ago

SACRAMENTO – Today, the Sacramento FIRST Task Force released details on its plans to revisit top proposals for a new entertainment and sports complex.

In a memo published online at www.sacramentofirst.org, the Task Force shared details of a November 18, 2010 internal meeting held at City Hall. The group was requested to reconvene by Mayor Kevin Johnson in October 2010, when the City’s exclusive negotiating agreement with the Kamilos Group expired after its “Convergence Proposal” was unable to meet performance milestones.

In its March 2010 Critical Path Report, the Task Force had identified two additional proposals as “demonstrating promise of feasibility”: one at a possible Downtown Plaza site, and another at the Railyards. The Critical Path Report had recommended that the Task Force and City revisit these proposals if the Convergence Plan was unsuccessful.

As a result, members reviewed the current status of each finalist. This included discussion around the departure of two Task Force members, Larry Kelley and Mike Kvarme, to join the “CORE Team,” as well as implications of the transfer in ownership of the Railyards from Thomas Enterprises to Inland American.

In light of these developments, the Task Force saw value in continuing in their service to the Mayor, Council and public. The Task Force outlined a process to revisit updated proposals as follows:

  • December 30, 2010 Deadline to submit updated proposals
  • January 6, 2011 Public Hearing on updated presentations
  • January 21, 2011 Task Force issues supplemental analysis to Mayor and Council

The Sacramento FIRST Task Force was convened by Mayor Kevin Johnson in November 2009 to facilitate a public discussion about the feasibility of a new complex. Task Force members represent leaders in a range of disciplines, including business, law, finance, construction, development, architecture, public relations, and arts and culture. To date, Task Force members and advisors have donated an estimated 900 volunteer hours in service to the Sacramento community.

More information on the Task Force can be found online at www.sacramentofirst.org.
