Sacramento Bee: The Sacramento City Council is undergoing its most dramatic
transformation in nearly 20 years.
One new council member was sworn in last week, and two more are scheduled to join the council Tuesday. The newcomers are replacing three incumbents who have a combined 38 years in office. Not since 1992 have this many new faces joined the council at once.
Asked last week to describe the dynamics of the new council, Johnson said the group will bring "energy" and "tenacity" to City Hall, along with a resistance to "being satisfied with the way things have always been done." And he said this election should serve as a message to the rest of the council.
"I think what you're going to see happen is that the current council members are going to have to understand that there's a new day in Sacramento and that we're all going to have to become very relevant and not be so set in our ways," he said. "And we can't let petty politics and personalities get in the way of what's in the best interest of the city."
