San Francisco mayor touts city's efforts to go green

Sacramento Bee:  San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Thomas Friedman will be the speakers for Mayor Kevin Johnson's monthly 'Greenwise' initiative meetings in August and September.

Newsom, the Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor, will speak Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Sacramento State University Ballroom.

He will discuss some of the pro-environment policies adopted by San Francisco which have made it one of the greenest cities in the country.

Friedman, author of five best-selling books including "The World is Flat" and "From Beirut to Jerusalem," will be the speaker at the mayor's Sept. 30 'Greenwise' meeting, which will be held at the Crest Theater at 9:30 am.
