Sacramento Bee: Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson's push to increase his job's authority is officially on hold – and it could be two years before the issue is raised again.
At his weekly press conference Tuesday, the mayor said he would not ask the City Council at that night's council meeting to place a strong-mayor measure on the ballot. Instead, he said he would target 2011 – and possibly 2012 – for a vote on the subject.
"That doesn't mean I'm going to quit fighting for reform," the mayor said. "It doesn't mean I'm going to quit having conversations that are difficult."
Johnson said he believes "that at some point, before I'm out of office, we will have reform for the people."
