Sacramento Bee: Like any good political street fight, the 18-month feud over Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson's proposal to beef up his powers was all about choosing sides.
On the surface, the most obvious fight was waged between the city's influential business powers, who loved the proposal, and influential labor unions, who hated it. Both interest groups donated heavily to their respective sides and politicked like mad in the days leading up to Tuesday night, when the council soundly rejected Johnson's request that the city attorney draft a strong-mayor ballot measure for November.
