Sacramento Bee: The volunteer rate in the Sacramento region decreased last year, but
that doesn't mean fewer residents are volunteering or that they're contributing less time, according to a recent study by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
The government-run agency attributes the 3 percent decrease in last year's volunteer rate, 25.8 percent, to the area's population growth, not less volunteerism.
"(Sacramento) is trending in the right direction," said Ashley Etienne, its spokeswoman. "It's clear that local residents have placed a high priority on serving."
