Sacramento Bee: This week, the city will accept applications to revive the 700 and 800 blocks of K Street – the critical stretch of real estate just east of the Downtown Plaza. This is a black hole where other businesses have died as well. If the city gets K Street right, it lifts the faded Westfield mall and connects downtown to Old Sacramento in one huge piece of the city that works.
It's why Sacramento must get a new arena. If Mayor Kevin Johnson and City Council members can build a Kings arena and entertainment complex in the downtown railyard, then Sacramento has a city center to match its gleaming neighborhoods and midtown business district.
