Mayor Johnson wins council support for budget analyst office

Published: 2 years 86 days ago

Sacramento Bee: He hasn't persuaded the City Council to get on board with his strong-mayor proposals, but Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson got a win Tuesday night when the council voted by a slim margin to adopt his proposal for an independent budget analyst office in City Hall.

Johnson had packaged the proposal with his original strong-mayor plan in 2008, saying it would provide the council with critical advice during budget season.

The council had the option of placing the ordinance on the June ballot after supporters gathered enough signatures from city voters last year. Instead, the council – by a 5-4 vote – decided to adopt the proposal outright, avoiding the $104,000 price tag to place the measure on the ballot.
