Style and Substance in San Fran

Last Monday, I was in the Bay Area and was fortunate enough to have been able to meet with San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.  We met in the lobby of the sleek St. Regis Hotel which was a fitting environment in many ways for this vibrant, young mayor.   Newsom has both style and substance.  He has

We Want Our Neighborhood Back

Last night I headed to south Sacramento, to talk to a Neighborhood Watch organization of 50 citizens at the Union House Elementary School. Like many of the community groups I've spoken with, this one was tight-knit and well-organized, with the single purpose of putting an end to the massive increase

Fourth of July Celebration Thoughts

7.04.08Happy Fourth of July to everyone! This is a particularly special holiday for our nation and for me given the election season that is upon us. With so much momentum and interest from the presidential election to the mayoral campaign here in Sac, America is abuzz with democracy. As I was out

Crime Spree in Natomas

7.1.08As I drove up to Inderkum High School yesterday for a community meeting with Sac PD I was surprised to see hundreds of people pouring out of their cars moving with such a sense of urgency toward the school. It was like a scene you'd see when people are heading to a sports game or concert. The
