Across the nation and in our city tonight, we saw voters embrace change and choose hope. I am so proud to be a small part of these historic events, and I am proud and grateful to have the support of so many voters and volunteers and staff who truly believe in the change we can bring to Sacramento.
Everyone understands the reality of the challenges we face, but tonight there is renewed faith in our ability to meet those challenges together.
Tonight I am also thinking of the late, great mayor of our city, Joe Serna.
He once said, “I was supposed to live and die a farm worker, not as a mayor and a college professor. I have everything to be thankful for.”
Well, I am the Oak Park version of that story, and I too have everything to be thankful for tonight.
I’m thankful for the amazing opportunities available in the City of Sacramento, the State of California, and the United States of America. I’m thankful for the legacy of leadership that Joe Serna left.
I’m thankful for the obvious love Heather Fargo has for this city and the people of Sacramento.
And I’m thankful we will all be able to move forward from Day One in a spirit of unity, rolling up our sleeves and working to make this city even better for everyone.
Thank you, from the very bottom of my heart, for your faith and confidence in me. Together, we will make Sacramento a city that works for everyone.
