From education to homelessness, from downtown revitalization to the arts, Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson is looking for new ideas and strategies. He would like those ideas and strategies to come from top graduate students from around the region.
This month, Mayor Johnson is seeking applicants for his Fall 2010 Mayoral Fellowship Program.
Fellowships offer a chance to work inside Sacramento City Hall with the Mayor's senior staff. Students will develop public policy papers in a variety of high priority areas.
Mayoral Fellows will not only explore policy, but will collaborate with Mayor Johnson and his staff on day-to-day operations, communications, and outreach to the community.
The program, modeled on the White House Fellowships, provides a unique, hands-on learning experience in municipal governance.
The Fellows Program was launched in Summer 2009, with a cohort of Harvard Business School students. Since then, nine additional students from Harvard, Sacramento State and UC Davis have participated.
Successful candidates must be enrolled in graduate programs and possess strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Time commitment is 20 hours per week for a minimum of eight weeks.
Deadline for Fellowship applications is Monday, Sept. 27. Applicants should send a resume and cover letter to mayorstaffing@cityofsacramento.org.
