By Kevin Johnson
Mayor of Sacramento
New ideas blended with the energy and experience to move Sacramento forward. Those are the collective qualities of candidates I am endorsing in the June 8 California primary election.
Some endorsements were easy to make. Others were not. In the latter cases, my support went to candidates who acknowledge the need for change, new ideas and leadership.
While these choices can be difficult, I am gratified to see local races attracting newcomers to the ballot. The city can only move forward when citizens harness their energy and frustration and challenge the status quo. I hope to see more contested city elections and new energy in 2012.
Finally, as a registered Democrat, I did not make endorsements for other parties in partisan races. Overall, however, I am proud to support a bipartisan slate of candidates.
