Earth Day 2010 is the perfect time to preview Mayor Kevin Johnson’s new Green Initiative.
The Green Initiative will focus on the “Three Es” of clean, green tech – energy, environment and education.
The goal is to make Sacramento a national leader in the green movement, transforming our region into an “Emerald Valley” recognized around the world.
First steps will bring together leaders from the private sector, the academic world and the political realm to create jobs, establish policy and improve the community’s Green IQ.

It’s a collective effort, engaging everyone from tech innovators to school kids. As the Emerald Valley grows, the region will benefit with new jobs, new industries and new incubators of tomorrow’s ideas.
Sacramento is uniquely positioned as a Green Wave leader. The region has an established academic base, with UC Davis, Sacramento State and private institutions of higher learning.
Plus, the region is home to progressive energy companies, including SMUD, PG&E and Roseville Electric.
We have a fast-growing roster of green companies, organically grown or transplanted from across the globe.
And we have policy makers, thanks to Sacramento’s status as the capital city of California.
The timing is perfect for Sacramento to Green Up and establish itself as the nation’s clean, green leader.
Sacramento Earth Day 2010 (April 22), features a Youth Energy Summit, where approximately 100 high school students will study energy efficiency and compete for scholarships.
The festivities are only the start of what promises to be an amazing year in the Emerald Valley.
