A city can’t move forward without dynamic leadership from its business community. So I am proud, honored and energized to learn Sacramento’s premier business organization – the Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce – has endorsed the Executive Mayor Initiative on the June 2010 ballot. The initiative will guide Sacramento forward, allowing our city to join the ranks of major metropolitan communities across the U.S.
The Metro Chamber’s endorsement underscores the reality that Sacramento is ready for a dynamic new era of leadership, growth and prosperity.
The arguments for Executive Mayor are numerous and well known. Essentially, the city’s charter reflects the political conditions of 1920. The charter desperately needs an update.
The status quo is no longer acceptable to Sacramento residents.
While a few special-interest groups cling to business as usual and seek to stop Sacramento citizens from even voting on Executive Mayor, business leaders such as Metro Chamber are ready to move forward.
The Metro Chamber understands Sacramento can’t become a world-class city when “business as usual” prevails at City Hall.
When bureaucracies are bogged down by petty politics and special interests, creativity suffers. Opportunities are missed.
Business leaders recognize the slow death a community suffers when the entrepreneurial spirit is smothered.
I am thankful for the Metro Chamber’s endorsement of Executive Mayor.
And I’m determined to make sure the Executive Mayor Initiative becomes a catalyst toward the economic revitalization of Sacramento.
